A Vista Local with Big Vision

In the first episode of The Film Hub Off-Script, Lauren, founder and CEO of The Film Hub in Vista, sits down with long-time member and marketing entrepreneur Jeff Fox. Jeff is the founder of Star Fox Media, a local marketing agency helping small businesses grow while also serving on Vista’s City Council.

As the very first member of The Film Hub when it opened five years ago, Jeff’s journey is uniquely woven into the story of the space and the creative ecosystem around it. This conversation dives deep into Jeff’s path: from being an introverted behind-the-scenes marketer to stepping up as a business owner, mentor, and community leader. Lauren and Jeff dive into a deep conversation of the struggles of developing as CEO’s including breaking mindsets and releasing control.

Starting with Film and Finding a Niche in Marketing

Jeff’s background began in the film industry, where he worked behind the scenes handling marketing and strategy. As he recalls, he was always the guy in the back office—building pitch decks, creating strategy documents, and staying off-camera. But things changed when he founded a marketing company during a lull in film production.

That company became Star Fox Media, a full-service marketing agency focused on owner-operated small businesses. From web design and video production to branding and social media, Jeff’s team offers the kind of end-to-end marketing support most business owners desperately need, especially when they’re overwhelmed trying to wear too many hats.

The Hardest Shift: Becoming the Face of the Brand

For Jeff, the biggest mindset shift was learning to become the face of his business. As a natural introvert, it wasn’t something he pursued, but as a company founder, it became essential for the brand and business. From networking events to presentations and ultimately a political campaign, he found himself pushed out of his comfort zone in every way.

The Film Hub’s community directly shaped the growth of Star Fox Media. His current team—videographers, podcast producers, and designers—were all sourced through relationships built right here.

A huge part of that transformation came from working inside The Film Hub. Jeff credits the space not only for its resources — like podcast rooms, studios, and event space — but for the community of creatives and professionals who helped him build his team and stay accountable.

On Delegation, Trust, and Scaling

As Jeff’s business grew, another big challenge surfaced: letting go. Like many founders, he found it hard to delegate, especially after years of doing everything himself.

Lauren echoed the sentiment, sharing her own struggles with control and the importance of building trust with your team. The two agreed that scaling requires more than hard work — it takes mindset shifts, healthy boundaries, and a lot of intentional growth.

The Film Hub: Where Community and Creativity Meet

So what keeps Jeff going? At the core of it all is a simple but powerful value: service. Whether through marketing, leadership, or volunteering, Jeff finds purpose in helping others succeed.

And that philosophy carries into his public service on Vista’s City Council, where he’s working to support local businesses, strengthen community partnerships, and build a better city.

Jeff’s story is a powerful example of what happens when entrepreneurship meets community. The Film Hub provided more than just office space — it created a collaborative environment where creatives, professionals, and innovators could build something bigger together.

“I don’t think Star Fox Media would be what it is today without this place.”

For Lauren, that’s exactly why The Film Hub exists: to offer a space where local entrepreneurs can thrive, support each other, and build the kind of community that elevates Vista as a whole.
